ophelia takes the lead.

the title of rook farm's youngest visitor has been usurped! ophelia, aging a mere 3 months, took the rook farm by storm on sunday. she held conversations with chickens, goats, and one very nosey llama. much sleep was required after such highly charged baby/animal discussions.

alexander the baby vs the rook farm animals.

yesterday, the rook farm welcomed it's youngest visitor, alexander the baby. alexander showed true courage as he came face to face with grain-hungry goats, dirt-digging pigs, slobbering puppies, and the stoic but stealthy giant-headed donkey foal. alexander uses a technique he refers to as his "poker face" at all times as to never "let the enemy see you sweat". this technique also works to garner him extra chocolate and steel guitar serenades. watch out for this kid, he will steal your rootbeer.

dirty work.

living on a farm, i have found it next to impossible to keep a clean house. i've always been domestically challenged. housework is not my cup of tea. but i vowed i would try to keep this little ol' farm house visitor-friendly. i am beginning to wonder if i'm just fooling myself. for starters, it's been raining cats & dogs for the past few weeks. floods came & closed off streets and left giant pools of water & mud all over our yard and field. thank god my husband gave me some knee-high rubber boots recently. they have been invaluable. and even though we take boots off at front door, somehow the kitchen floor gets a fresh sprinkling of dirt-fairy-dust daily.

and then there are the pigs..... who are just plain nasty.

and two giant puppies whose favorite game is "let's jump on mom after we've romped in the pond". to them, it never gets old.

and finally, it's hard to keep up with laundry when a certain beagle likes to put on someone's shorts.

life is good.

we are all moved in. been here a week now. seems like a year, but in a good way. this place really feels like home. and so far i have dug in the dirt, walked acres and acres of land along side fields of cows, caught bugs with my hands, and learned to drive in the dark on very very very winding roads. i suppose i am now officially not a city-girl. and neither are my animals.

we bought the farm.

today we closed on our new house and hopefully our new life. we bought a 1930s farm house in the middle of nowhere, with 7+ fenced acres, and a couple of old barns. it might be the craziest thing i've done yet. i have no idea what the future holds. but there is a winery within a few miles with an outdoor patio.
